Cafe de Lube was opened on August 10th, 2008. Owned by Ronald and Tatyana Giles, the concept was born in 2001 while Ron was having auto maintenance done at a local oil change facility. The short version is simply that Ron found the experience severely lacking, and while waiting he brainstormed to find a solution. That was the moment the Cafe de Lube concept was born. Below is the local news article published shortly after we opened, as well as the opening press release.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Café de Lube, LLC. Kenosha, Wisconsin – 9/25/2008
Nearly 8 years ago, Ron Giles had returned to his hometown of Kenosha after living abroad. Upon his return, he purchased a used vehicle and proceeded to visit a local lube shop to have his vehicle’s fluids serviced. The experience was not as he would have hoped. Several delays forced him to be stranded there for over 3 hours. During that time he was miserable, as the waiting room resembled that of most of those establishments. It was small, dirty, and void of any comfort. He felt the restrooms were unfit even for men. Furthermore, there were no beverage or food options. Thus Ron was overcome with an idea to change all that…
Years later, in September 2005, Ron initiated a plan to build an establishment which would forever change the way automotive lube shops accommodate their customers. That was when “Café de Lube” was born. It was to be a beautiful coffee house with a European flair, coupled with a two bay lube shop. By creating an inviting environment for customers requiring lube services, he felt that people would realize very quickly what a wonderful concept it was.
Since Ron also wanted to offer the coffee house as an option to all customers, he designed it in such a way that it could function as a standalone entity. Therefore providing a beautiful and relaxing environment where everyone can enjoy the highest quality beverages and bakery. Thus the coffee café and the lube shop, while occupying the same building, have no direct connection to each other. So if a customer does not require lube services, they can still enjoy the warmth and comfort of the gorgeous coffee house.
Café de Lube opened on August 10th, 2008, and offers Café drive-thru service, wireless Internet, outside patio seating during the warm months, inside fireplace during the cold months, the finest bakery Ron could locate (brought in from Madison), and much more. Café de Lube is also the exclusive retailer of “Ancora” coffee in the Kenosha and Racine areas. “Ancora”, a Small Batch Artisan coffee roaster also based in Madison, was chosen as one of the top ten coffee houses in the U.S. by “USA Today”! Their coffee sets the standards that most are measured by. And comments by customers are very positive, with most stating that the coffee is the best they have ever tasted. Visit Ancora’s web site (www.ancoracoffee.com) to learn more.
Although Café de Lube has been open for less than two months, the customer base is growing steadily – with most returning regularly. Customers are finding the concept a welcome change from the dreary, pressure-based selling atmosphere of most lube shops. Café de Lube provides a fair service/product at a fair price, therefore customers are not constantly badgered to purchase items or services that they do not need. Expansion throughout the Midwest is planned. An exceptionally designed and extremely unique concept (not only to the Midwest, but also most of the nation), Café de Lube is sure to gain the loyal customer base necessary to grow and forever change the automotive lube shop experience.
